Sweden Dynamics took part in a high-level discussion on the future of Swedish defence innovation during Almedalsveckan, participating in the seminar "Från behov till verklighet: varför fastnar försvarsinnovation i Sverige?" hosted by AMYNA at Ideon Science Park as part of Skånes Innovationsarena.
Representing Sweden Dynamics, CEO Sebastian Merlöv joined a distinguished panel of leaders from the Swedish Armed Forces, Saab, BAE Systems Bofors and SOFF to discuss how Sweden can create a defence innovation ecosystem that enables both operational needs and breakthrough technologies.
A central theme of the discussion was the challenge facing innovative small and medium-sized companies. While the defence sector increasingly emphasises needs-driven innovation, established procurement processes and complex organisational structures can make it difficult for new technologies to reach end users. The panel explored how clearer pathways into the defence market, stronger collaboration with prime contractors, and more agile procurement approaches can help accelerate innovation.
For Sweden Dynamics, the discussion reinforced the importance of ensuring that innovative companies have opportunities to contribute to Sweden's defence capability. As the security environment evolves rapidly, strengthening collaboration between the Armed Forces, industry, academia and emerging technology companies will be essential to delivering the capabilities needed for the future.
The seminar was part of Skånes Innovationsarena, a collaborative initiative bringing together leading organisations from academia, industry and the public sector to showcase innovation and strengthen southern Sweden's contribution to national growth, resilience and security.
